Every Rear Differential we build receives the following services as standard:

Tear down

Drivetrain items are carefully disassembled and inspection reports are filed.  When it comes to upgrades and services we will assist by explaining all the options and the pro’s & con’s, so you yourself can easily make the wise choice when it comes to what you really need and not just what we can sell you.

Hot tank degreasing

We use a high pressure hot tank and mild biodegradable detergents remove the toughest soils leaving no residue your cleaned parts.

Contact pattern analysis

Gear contact patterns are noted for potential trouble and will be compared against the final assembly patterns.

Wet magnaflux crack inspection

We use a wet magnaflux machine detect cracks that you can’t see with the naked eye. Think of it this way, would you go to a surgeon who doesn’t use an X-ray machine?

Final inspection & assembly

With a thorough understanding of what needs to be done to improve durability backed by army of machines and specialized tooling are experts in the arena of inspecting gear contact patterns and making corrections to both the transmission case and gearsets to insure a proper and full uniform tooth contact for maximum durability.

TRE builds the best rear differentials for your high power Mitsubishi EVO.  Our rear differentials are durable and offer exceptional limited slip characteristics for fastest EVOs being Drag Raced, Road Raced, or in Time Attack.

All Rear Differentials receive the following new parts:

New upper & lower pinion bearings and spacers

The EVO rear differential is notorious for pinion bearing failure because of their small size and the reduced oil capacity doesn’t lubricate the front pinion bearing effectively. Bearings are designed to have a certain amount of preload or clearance on them for long service life. TRE uses Genuine Mitsubishi bearings, making sure they are set right on the money, through proper techniques that provide the longest bearing life while holding the gearset tight.

New carrier bearings

Bearings are designed to have a certain amount of preload or clearance on them for long service life. TRE uses Genuine Mitsubishi bearings, making sure they are set right on the money, through proper techniques that provide the longest bearing life while holding the gearset tight. The optional HD side cover allows the use of a high load capacity bearing for increased durability.

New oil seals

Designed with a large dust shielding lip to keep debris from damaging the primary seal, the OEM Mitsubishi seals are the best available for your rear differential. Oil seals are considered a NR part, (not reusable).

New breather

TRE replaces the breather because they are known to fail and cause leaks.  The new breather includes the protective cover to keep the check valve from being damaged.

New fill plug and washer

We replace your old rusty fill plug with a new plug and aluminum washer.

New drain plug and washer

The old rounded off drain plug is replaced with a new one.  Includes a new copper sealing washer.

New carrier cap bolts

During the rebuild, old bolts are used for set-up and replaced with new bolts during final assembly.

New rear cover bolts

We like to have our work look its best and replace the rear cover bolts.

Optional 12 plate MAX LOCK friction disc upgrade

Far superior to other friction disc because they have both radial the spiral grooves for improved lubrication and cooling. Think of them like vented rotor brakes vs. solid rotor brakes.

Optional HD billet side cover

More material in critical areas and larger corner radii makes the new side cover very stout.  This increased rigidity eliminates deflection of the factory differential housing, keeping the ring & pinion gear running perpendicular to one another even during the harshest of clutch dumps.

Optional oil sight glass rear cover

A nice solution that allows you to easily add the additional correct amount of oil which will keep your front pinion bearing from running hot and ruining your day. New oil sight covers have a fill line engraved on the cover. Oil capacity is increased approximately 25%.
