1ST GEAR OPTIONS:
-
EVO-8 = 2.928:1
-
EVO-9 = 2.785:1
The EVO-9 1st gear is 2.785:1
and it has 4.88% more mph over the 2.928:1 EVO-8 1st gear.
2ND GEAR OPTIONS:
-
EVO-8 = 1.950
-
EVO-9 = 1.950
Both gears are the same ratio.
3RD GEAR OPTIONS
-
EVO-8 = 1.407
-
EVO-9 = 1.444
The ratios are fairly close; the EVO-8 has 2.56%
more mph over the EVO-9 3rd gear. Some don't consider 2.56% much
difference but it does and we prefer the EVO-8 3rd gear for
drag racing.
4TH GEAR OPTIONS
-
EVO-8 = 1.031
-
EVO-9 = 1.096
Again the EVO-8 has 5.93% more mph over the EVO-9
4th gear. The EVO-8 4th gear is clearly the choice to use when
sticking with the stock 4.529:1 final drive.
5TH GEAR OPTIONS
-
EVO-8 = .720:1
-
EVO-9 = .761:1
-
JDM = .825:1
The EVO-8 gear has 5.38% more mph than the EVO-9
and it has 12.7% more mph over the JDM .825 5th gear. The .825
is ideal for a road race car with the 4.529:1 final drive or a daily
driver with the HKS 4.111:1 final gearing because it decreases the
work load the 5th gear synchro has to deal with while shortening the
ratio gap between 4th-5th.
FINAL DRIVE GEAR OPTIONS
-
STOCK = 4.529:1
-
HKS = 4.111:1
-
TRE = 3.735:1
The stock 4.529:1 final drive
is good for road racing and for an EVO that makes power above 9k but
is too short for a stroker motor.
The 4.111 final drive will
add 9.23% more mph in each gear, making it ideal for drag racing
or for use with 2.3 stroker motors that aren't revving to the moon and
those who are drag racing their EVO. The HKS final drive is
ground after heat treat making it run quiet.
The 3.735 final drive
gearset is 17.53% taller than the OEM final drive and is intended for
stroker motor EVOs that are not required to rev to the moon and are making more
than 485ft.lbs of torque. Our personal choice for the 3.73 final
drive gearset would be a stroker engine with a GT35R turbo with EVO-8
1st gear, EVO-9 short 3rd & 4th gears and the JDM short 5th gear.
While this wide ratio gearing is not ideal for drag racing the gearing
is a pleasure to daily drive on the street/highway.
