At this time we are not offering a STAGE 1 EXCHANGE SERVICE for the Mitsubishi EVOLUTION 5 speed transmission.

 

 The reasons are listed below.

 

First off, the EVO-8 input shaft and 1st gear has limitations, the tooth profile is a bit weaker than the EVO-9.  Also, the EVO-8 1st gear ratio is generally considered too short, especially in a EVO that is making more than 350WHP. 

 

Not only does the EVO-9 input shaft has a stronger tooth profile and a better gear ratio but the splines have more surface area and are stronger underneath of 5th gear.  This corrects the problem of 5th gear getting loose on the shaft and stripping the splines.

 

Many EVO owners prefer the EVO-8 3rd & 4th gearing over the EVO-9. The EVO-8 3rd & 4th gearset  is considered to be the best choice of gearing when it comes to both road racing and drag racing. We agree, and that is why there is not going to be a STAGE 1 at this time.

 

Also, the final drive gear almost always needs replacement.  Mitsubishi makes a stronger final drive gear and we use it. There are also a few different options when it comes to 5th gear and we can upgrade the exchange transmission for your EVO to better suit your needs.
