This is service is for the factory front limited slip differential.

 

PROBLEMS WITH THE FACTORY FRONT LIMITED SLIP

When it comes to limited slip front differential for the EVO, the factory EVO front limited slip differential has been proven to work every bit as good as a Quaife or Wavetrac.   However it has some problems with the housing cracking when the vehicle is used for drag racing. 

The problems:

  • The housing has a nasty cast surface.

  • The corner radius is too tight wear the planetary gears reside.

  • The induction hardening ends right over this highly stressed area.

A SIMPLE SOLUTION

You can drop a lot of cash on a Cusco, Kaaz, Quaife or Wavetrac or you can save yourself some money and just have your front differential housing gone over by us.  It's worth every penny and we have not had a single housing failure in the past 5 years that we've been offering this service.

  • magnaflux inspection of the outer housing

  • magnaflux inspection of the sun and planetary gears

  • deburring and detailing of the housing

  • shot peening of the outer housing

  • shot peening of the sun and planetary gears

DETAIL THE HOUSING

We start by magnafluxing the housing, making sure that the housing that is not cracked. Afterwards the housing is deburred to remove the cast finish features and the larger corner radius is made.  This is also done on the inside of the housing to eliminate the planetary gears from loading this area with excessive force.

 

 

SHOT PEEN THE HOUSING

The outer housing is shot peened both inside and outside along with the internal gearset. Surfaces that are precision ground are masked off so they don't get peened. 

Street Tuned Motorsports has been using the factory limited slip front diff with this service done to it in their 8 second drag EVO for the past 3 years without trouble.
